Definition of a Nursing Diagnosis

NursingNetwork, - A nursing diagnosis is defined by NANDA International (2013) as a clinical judgment concerning a human response to health conditions/life processes, or vulnerability for that response, by an individual, family, group, or community.

New NANDA Nursing Diagnoses In this edition of NANDA nursing diagnosis list (2018-2020), seventeen new nursing diagnoses were approved and introduced.

These new approved nursing diagnoses are:
  1. Readiness for enhanced health literacy
  2. Ineffective adolescent eating dynamics
  3. Ineffective child eating dynamics
  4. Ineffective infant eating dynamics
  5. Risk for metabolic imbalance syndrome
  6. Imbalanced energy field
  7. Risk for unstable blood pressure
  8. Risk for complicated immigration transition
  9. Neonatal abstinence syndrome
  10. Acute substance withdrawal syndrome
  11. Risk for acute substance withdrawal syndrome
  12. Risk for surgical site infection
  13. Risk for dry mouth
  14. Risk for venous thromboembolism
  15. Risk for female genital mutilation
  16. Risk for occupational injury
  17. Risk for ineffective thermoregulation
Retired NANDA Nursing Diagnoses In this latest edition of NANDA nursing diagnosis list (2018-2020), eight nursing diagnoses were removed from compared to the old nursing diagnosis list (2015-2017). These nursing diagnoses are :
  1. Risk for disproportionate growth
  2. Noncompliance (Nursing Care Plan)
  3. Readiness for enhanced fluid balance
  4. Readiness for enhanced urinary elimination
  5. Risk for impaired cardiovascular function
  6. Risk for ineffective gastrointestinal perfusion
  7. Risk for ineffective renal perfusion
  8. Risk for imbalanced body temperature.
